Almost three weeks after receiving this hand-made plant, a
gift from Mike, I still look at it often and cherish it so much.
At first it looked like a strangely designed decorative
table light. Wrapped in a white transparent sheet, I wondered what it was as I
noticed it was almost paper weight.
I got to appreciate it better when I was told Mr. Mike
Affiah, one of the security guys, had taken his time to put the piece together
all by himself. With a deep-rooted
smile, he gladly handed me the item. I was touched. He actually made it all
from scraps! I love the spirit behind it; the creativity.
I still wonder how many more talents out there still waiting
to be discovered. We have spoken afterwards. He still could do more and several
other similar things. Wow!!!
As we approach the summer break, it shouldn’t be about
books, study and books alone. Forward-looking schools could engage the services
of talents like Mike to teach kids about crafts-making, music, drama, swimming,
games like chess, sports like tennis, etc.
Efforts in this direction have given schools in the
developed world greater advantages both on the short and long run.
Thank you, Mike. I really appreciate.
