VERY NICE PLACES YOU COULD VISIT IN OGUN, NIGERIA



Ogun state one of states in Nigeria just turned 40. The state which is also known as the Gateway State has produced many illustrious Nigerians and the prominent of the all being Obafemi Awolowo( the great Awo) who was a former Finance Minister of Nigeria.

Brief history of Ogun State
Ogun State is also known as the “Gateway State,” Ogun State is located in the southwest of Nigeria. It was created out of the old Western State in 1976, and it borders Lagos State to the south, Oyo and Osun States to the north, Ondo State to the east and the Republic of Benin to the west. Abeokuta is the capital of the Ogun State, and the largest city in the state. The state also has 20 local government area.

Travel Destinations in Ogun State
There are over 30 travel destinations and tourist attractions in Ogun State, but only some of them will be briefly listed here:

 Olumo Rock
Olumo Rock is the most popular tourist attraction in Ogun State. It is located in the heart of
Olumo Rock
Abeokuta. It is an imposing rock with lots of large caves and historical artifacts. Legend has it that
the rock sheltered the ancient peoples of Abeokuta and Egba from enemy invasions and tribal wars. It is now beautified and upgraded to allow for international visitors to tour its facilities.

Abeokuta Museum
The museum is located in Abeokuta and a must-see for every visitor to Ogun State. The museum houses artifacts that tell the ancient history of the town and its peoples. There are handcrafts

and ancient weapons used by the early settlers of the town and its environs. It also showcases the cultural heritage of the people in a way that is both eye-opening and educative.
Ebute Oni Tourist Beach
This is a tourist beach located in Oni of Ijebu Waterside. The beach was discovered by fishermen several decades ago and the government came up to reconstruct it into a resort for tourists and native visitors. There are chalets into which tourists can lodge and have a nice time around the place.

Bilikisu Sungbo Shrine
Situated a few miles from Olumo Rock, this monument is credited to one Sungbo Eredo who ordered it built several centuries ago.
It is a 100-mile-long wall with a moat which encloses about 25 miles of inbound space with lots of monuments. The earthen bank of the Eredo rises to about 70 feet with patches of moss covering it as it wounds round a wide ditch of earth.

Lisabi Sacred Forest
The Lisabi forest is considered sacred by many indigenes of Ogun State. It is bounded to the south by

Tegbelu Stream and to the west by Ogun River. There are several rare bird species in the ancient forest and it also hosts several endangered animals and reptiles.
Saam resort
Saam Health Farm and Holiday Resort
This is a health resort and holiday farm where anyone could go for relaxation and a perfect sight. It is situated at Ajitele town along Idi-Iroko road. Here you can enjoy swimming activities and fishing as well as boating in the local river.

Osuuru Water Spring
The Osuuru spring is situated at Imeko town of Imeko/Afon local government area. The spring flows from a rocky hill and its torrents gushes forth onto a flat space and then down a valley in a way that makes for a perfect, visual scenery.
You can also enjoy horse racing or even walk the trails to improve on your health.

It should also be noted that Ogun State has Other attraction spots which includes: the Alake’s Palace, Itoku market, Omo forest reserve, Hilltop Golf Resort, Yemoji natural swimming in Ijebu Ode, Oyan dam in Abeokuta North, Iwopin boat regatta, Oronna shrine in Ilaro, Tongeji island in Ipokia, Old Manse at Ogbe in Abeokuta, Ota and Ijamido river shrine in Ota among others.
