FOR THESE COUPLES, IT WAS LOVE-AT-FIRST-SIGHT

Many couples believe they fell for each other the very first time they met even though some others believe Love-At-First-Sight is fallacious.

However Splendid! had separate conversations with two lovely couples who will make you believe that love at first sight is very real and could very much happen to you.

Christy and Ayobami Odetola

We first met at my elder brother's "call to bar" graduation party at my parents’ home in Lagos, Nigeria. However, we did not start dating until five years after; we eventually got married six years after we started dating. So we got married eleven years after we first met.


The main attraction to my husband first and foremost (like anybody who knows him will say) is his very high IQ. He is a very intelligent man, plus he has the rare qualities of being honest and trustworthy. He is a very caring person who is down to earth and also has a good sense of humor.


For Ayobami, Christy’s beauty was a main attraction. “My first attraction to my wife was her striking beauty, intelligence and up- bringing. I knew she was a wife material instantly. It was love at first sight. She has a bubbly nature and never looks down on anyone. She is indeed one of a kind”.


Christy continues: “So far, God has been faithful. We have been blessed with three gifts  (a set of twins and our last son), two boys and a girl. There has been challenges, don't let anyone fool you, even if you marry your best friend, there are sure to be issues. There is nothing like a "happily forever after" in marriage. However, genuine love for each other is the bond that will hold you through.”

Ayobami is a mechanical engineer while Christy owns and manages an insurance firm.

Omaji and Fred Abua

 For Fred and Omaji, the story is different. "I met my wife at her church convention in Uyo. She was a student then and I was a visiting gospel musician. The main attraction was the mere fact that we were from the same area".

"I notice we were both gentle, calm and reserved people and we soon realized they liked each other. One thing led to another and we started spending hours together even though we mostly had nothing to discuss when they were together. We enjoyed each other’s company. We were compatible". 

"After one year, we just knew we were meant for each other and made the decision to get married".

It’s been 16 years since the wedding and our union has continued to enjoy God’s peace and blessings.

We are blessed with four children – a girl, and three boys.

Omaji is an educationist while I work as a writer, music producer and Bible teacher.
